Helping Pennsylvania & New Jersey Understand Whistleblower Rights And Protections

What Is A Whistleblower?

In a nutshell, a whistleblower is an employee who reports or speaks up about fraudulent or illegal conduct committed by their employer.

In certain situations, whistleblowers are protected from retaliation under the law. They can't be fired, demoted suspended, threatened or harassed.

Under the Whistleblower Protection Act, for instance, federal employees who reveal dishonest practices cannot be retaliated against.

Under the False Claims Act, private sector employees, known as corporate whistleblowers, who report misconduct violations of the law, regulation or rule by their employers who do business with the government are also protected.
